On Sept. 26, 1987 my father, Carleton B. Kocher and I had the privilege of joining with many others of the Kocher Family as we attended “The Kocher Family Celebrates 250 Years in America” at the Ben Salem Church in East Penn Township in Carbon County, Pennsylvania.

I am an 8th generation Kocher from John George Kocher and my children and grandchildren who live in the Harveys Lake general area are 9th and 10th generation descendents.

Many of the Kocher ancestors were blacksmiths, barn builders and carpenter.

The accompanying photograph pictures my great-grandparents Ella Marie and Elias Bellas Kocher, their daughter (my grandmother) Amanda Jane Kocher, my dad, Carleton B. Kocher and several others of the Kocher family who can be seen at a gathering from about 1915.

They are: Front row left to right: Susie (Kocher) Crispell, Alice (Kraft) Newell, Adirene Edrie Ella (Kocher) Nulton, Phoebe (Kocher) Whitmire, Tony Kraft, Elsie (Kocher) Cornell and Arthur L. Kocher.

I am secretary/treasurer of the Kocher Cemetery Association. The cemetery was chartered in 1902. There were 15 Kochers who signed to establish this cemetery which is located in the Ruggles section of Harveys Lake.
