NANTICOKE — Luzerne County Community College will offer cooking classes during the fall at the college’s Joseph A. Paglianite Culinary Institute in downtown Nanticoke.
“Soups and Sauces” will teach participants the basics of creating soups and sauces. Topics will include creating from scratch, consommé, cream soups and how to make the “five mother sauces.” The two-session course will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 24.
“Pastas and Sauces” provides instructions on how to make homemade ravioli, gnocchi, tortellini, linguini, tomato-basil sauce, marinara, brown butter sage sauce and tomato cream sauce alfredo. The two-session course will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 14.
“Christmas Cookies” will teach participants how to make cookies such as biscotti, butter cookies and Linzer tarts. The two-session course will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 12.
“Kids and Cookies” is designed to provide children ages 9 through 11 with both basic culinary instruction and the opportunity to create and design their own assortment of holiday cookies. The one-session course will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the College’s Educational Conference Center.
