The following are recent Lackawanna County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: “any inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.” The information is taken from the inspection database at www.eatsafepa.com. Postal addresses used here are as listed on the state’s website, and may not correspond to the municipalities in which facilities are physically located.

Althea’s, 700 Oak St., Old Forge, Dec. 28, Opening inspection; in compliance.

China Palace Restaurant, 1013 Commerce Blvd., Dickson City, Dec. 28. Change of owner; in compliance. Violations: Working containers in ware-wash sink area, used for storing chemicals, taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. The chemicals were identified and the containers were labeled during this inspection. Observed a plastic bag of carrots stored directly on the floor in walk-in cooler area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. The carrots were moved during this inspection.

St. George’s Family Restaurant, 304-306 Church St., Jessup, Dec. 28. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food employees observed in kitchen area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets or hats. Accumulation of old food residue at table mounted can opener. Accumulated grease and old food debris on the non-food contact surfaces of shelving under prep table. Observed reach-in freezer floor with an accumulation of old food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces. Floor underneath the ware-wash machine was observed to have an accumulation of dust, old food debris and in need of cleaning.

Sunrise Cafe, 212 Depot St., Clarks Summit, Dec. 28. Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Courtyard Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 16 Glenmaura National Blvd., Moosic, Dec. 29. Complaint inspection; in compliance. Violation: Non-food contact surfaces (guest ice machine) not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of pink substance residue. Ice machine used for food handling area.

Dollar General #16293, 205 S. Washington Ave., Jermyn, Dec. 30. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Receiving door located in the rear area of the food facility has a 1 inch gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals.

Family Dollar Store #3780, 301 Lackawana Ave., Olyphant, Dec. 30, Regular inspection; in compliance.

Smoke Town, 594 Burke Bypass Suite C, Olyphant, Dec. 30. Regular inspection; in compliance.

Albi’s Pizzeria and Family Restaurant, 80 S. Main St., Unit 2, Archbald, Jan.3. Regular inspection, out of compliance. Violations: The person in charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. New food facility in operation more than 90 days and has not employed a certified food employee as required. The food facility does not maintain Food Employee Certification records as required. Raw eggs stored above ready-to-eat foods in reach-in refrigerator. Time in lieu of temperature being used in the food facility to control ready-to-eat potentially hazardous foods without written procedures or documentation to verify disposition of food. Cutting board equipment, in the kitchen area, cannot be easily disassembled using common hand-held tools, for cleaning and inspection. Observed entire hood filters are missing. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Accumulation of debris and old food residue at table mounted can opener. Observed bain marie lid and refrigerator equipment, in kitchen area, with an accumulation of dirt, old food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces. Accumulated old flour dust and debris on the non-food contact surfaces of shelving/cabinets. Water, as observed at restroom sinks, is not under pressure during inspection. Toilet room is not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins. Observed unclean toilet room and in need of cleaning. Floor under cooking equipment is soiled with grease, old food residue, debris, and in need of cleaning.

Grande Pizza & Family Restaurant, 4200 Birney Ave., Moosic, Jan. 3. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Container with clams located in the walk-in cooler area did not have identification tags attached to the container. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Personal items cell phone stored in the food preparation/storage area.

SV Mini Mart, 4685 Birney Ave., Moosic, Jan.3. Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Aldi #87, 1115 Scranton/Carbondale Highway, Route 6, Scranton, Jan 4. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Observed wood pallets with food products stored against the wall. Old floor debris and grimes on floors surface beneath the storage racks in dry storeroom area and inside of walk-in freezer and in need of cleaning.

Long John Silvers #31495, 1502 Scranton/Carbondale Highway, Scranton, Jan. 4. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Spatula used for cooking are deformed and misshapen from heat, and are not durable under normal use in the food facility. Ware-wash sink has a hose attachment that is hanging below the flood rim of the sink and not an appropriate air gap.

Ruby Tuesday #4844, 15 Radcliff Drive, Moosic, Jan. 4. Regular inspection; out of compliance. Violations: Food facility has an original certificate posted, but the location is not conspicuous for public viewing. Observed ribs, cooked rice and pasta registering 51/54 degrees F in the multi- unit refrigerator, rather than 41 degrees F or below as required. Product was cooked on prior day. Discarded all the items and denatured on site. Interior surfaces of hood system has an accumulation of grease, and in need of cleaning. Multi-door refrigeration unit not holding 41 degrees F or below. Accumulated grease and old food residue on the non-food contact surfaces of equipment, shelving, and cabinets. Food residue, and grease observed in the hand-wash sink, indicating uses other than hand washing.
