Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nelson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, June 5, 2015. The Rev. Francis Merkel officiated the nuptial vows in 1965 at Sacred Heart Church, Duryea.

Mrs. Nelson is the former Laura (Lolly) Melucci, daughter of the late Daniel and Ida Melucci, Old Forge. Mr. Nelson is the son of the late Harry and Helen Nelson, Wilkes-Barre.

Their attendants included matron of honor and sister of the bride, Angela Melucci Piepoli; bridesmaid and sister of the groom, Claire Nelson Renick; best man, the late Stanley (Red) Weilgopolski and ushers, James Gelsleichter, the late Leonard Reed and Joseph Philstine and Al Hill.

Mrs. Nelson is a 1955 graduate of Old Forge High School. Upon graduation, she worked for Sweetheart Candy Company, Duryea. She then became a chef at Biscotto’s, Barb’s Italian Kitchen and Kristina’s Kitchen, all owned and operated by her sister. She is currently the supervisor of housekeeping for the Hampton Inn, Scranton.

Mr. Nelson is a 1954 graduate of Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre. Upon graduation, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving in the army, he had a life-long career as a United Parcel Service driver, where he met his sweetheart and 50-year bride, while delivering to Sweetheart Candy Company. Mr. Nelson is currently retired and remains active as the president and founder of the Moosic Mets baseball organization and is an associate scout for the Boston Red Sox. He was also inducted into the 2014 Northeast Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.

The couple has three children, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, one grandson and three step-granddaughters, Holly Fortese and her husband, Ben, and grandson, Nicholas Fortese, all of Peckville; Leigh Ann Nelson, Moosic; and Daniel Nelson and his wife, Kathi, and three step-granddaughters, Emily, Lily and Abigail Guziewicz, all of Peckville.

They celebrated their anniversary with a family dinner at Cafe Rinaldi, Old Forge.
