Curtis and Cathy Bennett of MountainTop are celebrating 40 years of wedded bliss today, Sept. 13, after meeting on a blind date in 1973.

They were married on Sept. 13 1975 in St. John’s United Methodist Church in Williamsport by Rev. John Shafer and the late Rev. Jule Ayers. After the ceremony there was a double rainbow in the sky and it proved to be their good luck charm.

Cathy is the former Cathy Burns of Williamsport, daughter of the late Kenneth and Marion Burns, Williamsport. She is currently employed by CHS Wilkes-Barre General Hospital as a nurse for the past 28 years.

Curtis is the son of the late Harold Bennett, Sr., Wilkes-Barre. Currently is retired from U.S. government, Tobyhanna Army Depot, after 37 years of service and US Army reserves after 26 years of service. Having served as a scoutmaster of several Boy Scout troops over 20 years, Curtis remains involved in Boy Scouts serving on the Eagle board of review. He is thoroughly enjoying retirement with his granddaugher and traveling with Cathy.

The couple have two wonderful children, son-in-law and soon to be daughter in law. Jason and his fiance’, Samantha, Kingston, will be married in May; and Amber and her husband, Joseph Costello, Dallas, and their precious, little sweetheart granddaughter, Nelia.

Curtis and Cathy celebrated with an early anniversary gift to each other in June, a cruise to Alaska and Seattle, Washington. They also will be celebrating with a trip to Ocean City, Maryland, with their family on their anniversary.
