DALLAS: The Irem Women’s Auxiliary invites the public to attend their final summer luncheon beginning at noon on Sept. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Irem Country Club. Prizes will be awarded.

The menu for the luncheon is choice of chicken scampi over rice pilaf or baked ham and scalloped potatoes, rolls/butter, carmel apple pie, coffee and tea.

Price of the luncheon is $18 and reservations may be made or cancelled by 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14. Make reservations with Sally Wagner, 570-675-2325; or Kathy Boback, 570-675-2884. Checks for the lunch may be payable to Acacia Services. This will be the final luncheon until next year!

The Irem Country Club is handicapped accessible and cost includes parking, lunch, and a fun afternoon.

EXETER: The Cosmopolitan Seniors trip coordinator scheduled a trip to Sands Casino for Thursday, Sept. 10.

Pickups are in Exeter and Pittston. You do not have to be a club member to join our trips.

FALLS: The Falls Active Adult Center, Sr 92, Exeter Township, will host Active Aging Day from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. on Wed. Sept. 2, at the Wyoming County Fairgrounds. This event is free for those 62 and over.

A representative from Rep. Karen Boback’s office will be here from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Sept. 9, to answer any state related questions or concerns.

The annual picnic will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, at Frances Slocum Park. Anyone 50+ is welcome to attend but you must RSVP by 12:30 p.m. the day before for lunch.

Active Aging Day will be held on Public Square in Wilkes Barre from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17.

There will be a craft fair and bake sale at the center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19.

There will be about 20 vendors with a wide variety of items, wool spinning demonstrations, direct sales vendors, baked goods, a food vendor and homemade candy.

All proceeds will benefit the center for programs, art and crafts.

HANOVER TWP.: The Lee Park Adult Center will have a blood pressure check at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, conducted by members of the Hampton House.

The center will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day.

It will be a bag lunch day on Tuesday, Sept. 8, and the center will close at 11:30 a.m.

There will be a blood pressure presentation at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

A falls prevention presentation is scheduled for 11 a.m on Wednesday, Sept. 23, by members of Guardian Elder Care.

Flu shots will be administered at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, by staff of Superior Health Services.

The Providence Place Fall Craft Fair will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

LUZERNE/WYOMING COUNTIES: The Luzerne/Wyoming County chapter of the Pennsylvania of School Retirees will be holding their “We don’t have to go back to School” picnic on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Frances Slocum Park, Pavilion 3.

We invite all school retirees to attend and “check us out.” The catered luncheon is $1 with no charge for first time attendees.

LUZERNE/WYOMING COUNTIES: The Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne/Wyoming Counties has available Senior Farmers Market vouchers and will be holding a 4 to 6 p.m. distribution at the Active Adult Centers in your area for any senior who qualifies and has not yet received vouchers for this program year.

To be eligible for the vouchers an individual is required to be at least 60 or turn 60 this year ; live in Luzerne or Wyoming Counties; and meet the income requirements. For 2015 total income requirement in household for one person is $21,590; two people, $29,101. If there are more than two people residing in household, please call for the income requirements.

Residents in living facility, nursing home or convent where meals are provided do not qualify for the program.

Pleas contact your local active adult center for dates and times in you location.

Also, a reminder for seniors who already obtained their vouchers to use them by Monday, Nov. 30, 2015.

NANTICOKE: Rose Tucker Active Adult Center, 145 East Green Street, will be having a bus trip to Mt. Airy Casino on Monday, Sept. 14. This trip includes a full buffet, tribute band “Manilow Live” and $20 free slot play.

The center will be conducting the AARP Smart Drivers Safety classes. The regular driver safety class will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22; and Wednesday, Sept. 23, with a half hour lunch break.

Also, a “Refresher course” will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 24, with a half hour lunch break.

PITTSTON: The Pittston Active Adult Center will be having a jewelry sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, and Friday, Sept. 4. Donations of jewelry are now being accepted. The public is invited to attend.

The center will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day.

Wilkes College students will be filling out evaluations on Tuesday, Sept. 8, in order to prepare for their Health Fair in October.

Also from 11 a.m. to noon Golden Living will be conducting free blood pressure screenings. This is open to the public.

An AARP Driver Safety Refresher Course will be held at the Center from 1 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19. This is a 4-hour class and can only be taken if you have already taken the 8-hour class.

The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.

An 8-hour class will be offered in two 4 hour sessions on Monday, Oct. 5, and Friday, Oct. 9.

To register call the center at 570-655-5561. These classes need only to be re-newed every 3 years and entitles you to a discount on your car insurance.

Only a few seats are remaining for the trip scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6, to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse. The cost is $82 and includes motor coach transportation, hilarious comedy show entitled “Social Security” and your choice from six different entrees for dinner.

Also included is their fabulous unlimited desert buffet.

On Monday, Nov. 2, there is a trip to Sands Casino. The cost is $25 which includes motor coach transportation, $20 free play and $5 food voucher.

Another trip in November is set for Wednesday, Nov. 18, to the American Music Theater with dinner at Miller’s Smorgasbord.

PLAINS: The Plains Senior Citizens Project HEAD held their meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at St. Bernardine Hall.

Mike Olskowski, Arlene Ruane, Joseph Ruane and Stella Szymonski were welcomed as new members.

Seats are still available for the trip to Mount Haven, PA on Dec. 11 to see a Christmas

Show, breakfast buffet, dinner and four hours of open bar. The price is $70 and anyone wishing to make this trip can call Mike at 570-823-2871.

There is a time change for the Hollywood Casino trip scheduled on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The bus will leave SS. Peter and Paul’s parking lot at 10 a.m., NOT 8:30 a.m., due to buses arriving at the casino.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 2. Host and hostesses will be Dominick Emerick, Bernardine Kulp, Mary Hoinski, Mary Ann Jasonis and Joan Magdalinski. They are to be at the hall by 11:30 a.m. to set up refreshments and clean up afterwards.

The building is handicapped accessible.

SWOYERSVILLE: The Swoyersville Senior Citizens will meet at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church social hall.

Winners of the fifty-fifty fundraiser were Theresa Yurko and Clara Belle Reggie.

The club welcomed two new members; Helen Kopetchney and Mary Niccoli.

Howard and Lorraine Stibgen treated members to refreshments in observing their birthdays and anniversary.

WYOMING/WEST WYOMING: The Wyoming, West Wyoming Senior citizens met on Aug. 18 at St. Monica’s parish hall in West Wyoming.

The fifty-fifty winners were Mickey DeSalvo, Aliyak Brennen, Angie Zagurski and Eugene Stanczck.

The Bingo jackpot was taken by Helen Markert.

Our next meeting is today, Sept. 1, and the bakers are Theresa Alexander and Eugene Stanczak.
