EDWARDSVILLE: Dr. Christopher Sanders, plastic surgeon/breast reconstruction surgeon, will host a free health talk on breast cancer reconstruction at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Thomas P. Saxton Medical Pavilion in Edwardsville.

Dr. Sanders, who is on staff at Commonwealth Health Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, will discuss the options of breast cancer reconstruction, including implant-based, tissue-based and microsurgery.

Reflections on Gratitude: Creating Emotional Wellness in a Stressful World, 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, presented by Mandy Gwiazdowski, AT, MA, First Hospital; and Megan Runco, AT, MA, First Hospital.

These lectures are specifically designed for professionals and the community and cover a variety of relevant and current topics, providing an excellent opportunity for professional education and discussion. All presenters are leading specialists in their fields.

HAZLETON: The Luzerne-Wyoming Counties Mental Health & Developmental Services (MH&DS) will open its series of annual public hearings at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Catholic Social Services, 214 W. Walnut Street. The hearings offer the general public opportunity to provide input in planning future mental health and/or developmental services and programs. MOOSIC: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s annual Light The Night Walk will begin at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, at PNC Field, 235 Montage Mountain Road. With over 1000 people from Northeast Pennsylvania participating this event helps raise funds for innovative, life-saving cancer research. Check-in/registration begins at 4:30 p.m.

NANTICOKE: A communication fair will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, at Luzerne County Community College, Educational Conference Center, 1333 S. Prospect Street.

An overview of current communication technology with emphasis on non-verbal persons, as well as assessing the needs for communication in schools for individuals with intellectual disabilities, are among the topics to be presented.

This event is sponsored by the Luzerne-Wyoming Counties Mental Health & Developmental Services (MH&DS), in concert with the Luzerne-Wyoming Counties Training Council on Quality and The Advocacy Alliance Northeastern PA Health Care Quality Unit.

The free training will also provide a demonstration on the iPAD Air2 with six speaking retrofitted applications.

SCRANTON: Marywood University’s Psychological Services Center (PSC) will offer free depression screenings as part of National Depression Screening Day (NDSD) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Psychological Services Center located in the McGowan Center on the university’s campus. No appointment is necessary and the screenings are free and open to the public.

Held annually during Mental Illness Awareness Week in October NDSD screens people for depression and related mood and anxiety disorders. The screenings are anonymous and confidential, no commitment is necessary.

WILKES-BARRE: The Drs. Robert S. and Judith A. Gardner Educational Forum Series will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, in the Arnaud C. Marts Sports and Conference Center, Room 214, Wilkes University. The forum examines the topic “Rural Education: Impressions and Perspectives” with guest speaker Dorinda McHenry, adjunct instructor at Wilkes University. The event is free and open to the public.
