PLAINS: Members of Plains High School class of 1949 and their guests will meet for lunch at 1 p.m. at the Rustic Kitchen at Mohegan Sun Casino. All are urged to attend.

Tuesday

NEWPORT TWP.: The Newport Township Community Organization Committee will hold its October meeting at 6:45 p.m. in the community room of the new Newport Township Municipal Building on Kirmar Parkway. The group will discuss its various projects: summer activities for children, a community newsletter, and a recycling program. All township residents are welcome to attend.

WILKES-BARRE: The Wilkes University Polish Room committee will meet at 5 p.m. at Andy Perugino’s Restaurant, Luzerne. Anyone wishing to attend can call Susan at 570-736-6304. Plans for upcoming Polish Room events including the annual Wigilia dinner in December, and a scholarship dinner-dance planned for April of next year will be discussed.

WILKES-BARRE: The Wyoming Valley Woman’s Club will hold a luncheon meeting at noon at Genetti’s in Wilkes Barre. Musical entertainment will be provided by Mary Scheiv. Anyone interested in membership can contact Cindy Mitchell at 570-709-8635.

HANOVER TWP.: There will be a Hanover Township Crime Watch Meeting at 7 p.m. at the Hanover Township Fire Department, Breslau Hose Company Station #5, First and Delaney streets. Guest speakers will be officers from the Hanover Township Police Department speaking on the newly formed narcotics unit. All are welcome. Free refreshments. Parking, with handicap accessible entry on the side of the building.

WILKES-BARRE: The Regina’s of Kings College will meet at 7 p.m. in the Moreau Auditorium located in the Kings College Chapel building on Jackson Street, Wilkes-Barre. New members are welcome.

WILKES-BARRE: The St. David’s Society of Wyoming Valley will meet at noon at Gennetti’s Hotel & Convention Center, E. Market Street and S. Washington Street. John Owens, president, will preside and the speaker will be Marilyn Derolf, CPA. Reports will be heard from various committee members and all are encouraged to attend.

WILKES-BARRE TWP.: PTCC groups Luzerne County Taxpayers, Mountain Top On The Move, Wilkes-Barre Taxpayers Association and Captaxes 4 will meet at 7 p.m. in the Wilkes-Barre Township Municipal Building, 150 Watson Street, off Northampton Street. State Rep. Aaron Kaufer will be guest speaker giving updates on the Governor’s budget and HB/SB 76, elimination of school property taxes.

Tuesday, Oct. 20

AVOCA: The Avoca Neighborhood Crime Watch meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Avoca Borough building on Main Street. Guest speaker will be borough council president John Boone. Residents can receive information on important issues and progress on the land bank organization and the new borough building. Wednesday, Oct. 21

DALLAS: Grandparents raising Grandchildren support group will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Dallas. The group discusses common issues regarding child rearing. Free and open to all. Call the church office at 570-675-3859 to schedule child care. Handicapped accessible building.

WILKES-BARRE: The Pi Beta Gamma Club of Wyoming Valley will have its October meeting at 6 p.m. at Pasquales’s Restaurant, San Souci Parkway. Discussion will begin concerning the December charitable donation. The Club’s Christmas Party will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Wyoming Valley Country Club.
