The Nanticoke and Newport Fire Departments visited K.M. Smith School in the Greater Nanticoke Area School District. The students were shown a video on fire prevention. A Nanticoke fireman discussed an exit plan, smoke alarms, crawling through smoke, 911; and both the fireman and Ember, the fire dog, demonstrated stop, drop and roll. Students also got to visit the “Smokehouse” and could walk, crawl and climb out of a simulated house fire. At the demonstration, from left, are: John Polifka with Ember, Kailyn Klepadlo, Gauge Ciannilli, Amani Shiloh and Landon Dougal. Second row: Jared Whittaker, Ryan Amos, head teacher; Eric Banashefski and Paul Mierzwa.
