PLAINS: Throughout October Deja Vu Hair & Nail Salon, 1120 Plaza 315, Highway 315, is offering pink hair extensions all month long in an effort to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. WILKES-BARRE: The spiritual care team at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV) will host two free seven-week Living with Grief support groups. The day sessions will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. each Wednesday beginning Nov. 4 at the Spiritual Center at GWV, 1000 East Mountain Boulevard. It is recommended to complete all sessions to experience the full benefit of the group. The interactive sessions are confidential and light refreshments will be served.

The topics and schedule are Wednesdays: starting with process of grief and bereavement; an overview, Nov. 4; caring for yourself; recognizing emotion and types of grief, Nov. 11; re-socialization, coping with special events, Nov. 18; guilt and depression, facing emptiness; Nov. 25; anger, Dec. 2; how to keep growing, spiritually, Dec. 9; memorial service, Dec. 16, 6 to 7:30 p.m. only.

Chaplains Kathleen Kaskel, R.N., and Bob Thomas will facilitate the sessions. Anyone interested in attending either the day or evening series can call the spiritual care department at 570-808-5539.

WILKES-BARRE: Commonwealth Health scheduled 678 mammograms on Oct. 1 as part of the fourth annual Mammothon.

Volunteer employees from Berwick Hospital Center, Moses Taylor Hospital, Regional Hospital of Scranton, Tyler Memorial Hospital, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Center for Diagnostic Imaging and Advanced Imaging Services made 2,932 calls to women who were past due for their annual mammogram.

Commonwealth Health’s annual Mammothon coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year’s total surpassed the 488 mammograms that were scheduled last year.
