Shawnee Fort Chapter DAR collected over $350 in items plus $40 in cash for the purchase of canteen books at their November Veterans Day meeting. Chapter Secretary and VAVS representative, Alice Keiner, will help distribute all items collected and hand out gift bags for the upcoming holiday with other volunteers from VAVS. All items and money donated through the chapter directly benefit the men and women who are cared for at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center. Shawnee Fort Chapter has been active with the VA Hospital and various community events since organizing in November 2009. Most recently they participated in the Wyoming Valley Veterans Day Parade. The next chapter meeting is at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12. With the collected items is Keiner.
