Applications are being accepted for enrollment in the Luzerne and Wyoming Counties Head Start Program for the 2016-2017 school year. Head Start works with low-income children from birth to age five and their families to help them achieve their full potential.

Pre-school services are free of charge for 3- and 4-year-old children. Services include education, health, family support, parent involvement, transportation on a limited basis and opportunities for children with disabilities. Families must meet specific criteria, including age and income eligibility, to qualify. Apply early as selection for the 2016-2017 school year begins in the spring of 2016.

Luzerne County Head Start, Inc., also offers Pre-K Counts in partnership with several school districts in Luzerne County. Services are similar to Head Start preschool services; however, income eligibility is set higher and no transportation is provided.

Documents needed for the sessions include proof of child’s age, child’s current shot record, documentation of child’s diagnosed disability/special needs (if applicable), medical insurance coverage, and verification of one year’s income (previous 12 months or last calendar year). Social Security numbers may be requested for verification.
