Joy Anne Kurlandski and Matthew David Check were united in the sacrament of marriage on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, by the Rev. Michael J. Zipay. Music was provided by organist Linda Houck and violinist Jule Supplee.

The bride is the daughter of John and Mary Kurlandski of Swoyersville. She is the granddaughter of the late John and Helen Kurlandski, Plains, and the late Frank and Mary Sorick, Pittston.

The groom is the son of William R. and Mary Catherine Check of Wilkes-Barre. He is the grandson of the late William J. and Rita Check, Wilkes-Barre, and the late Oliver and Joan Ann Nallon, Wilkes-Barre.

The bride is a 2003 graduate of Bishop O’Reilly High School, Kingston. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing at Wilkes University in 2007. Joy is employed at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital as a registered nurse in the critical care unit.

The groom is a 2003 graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. He earned his Associate Degree in engineering at Penn State University in 2005. Matthew is employed at Tobyhanna Army Depot as an electronics engineer.

The bride was escorted down the aisle and given in marriage by her parents, John and Mary Kurlandski. She chose her friend, Maria Ryder, as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Susan Kurlandski, sister of the bride; Amanda Rosentel, Elizabeth Kuna, and Sophia Mathew, friends of the bride. Junior bridesmaids were Maria and Christina Kurlandski, sisters of the bride. Flower girl was Sophia Kurlandski, niece of the bride.

The groom chose his friend, James Shannon, as best man. Groomsmen were Bill Check, brother of the groom; Steve Moyer, Chris Grzezdzinski and Charles Kearney, friends of the groom. Ushers were John and Frank Kurlandski, brothers of the bride.

Scriptural readings were given by Mark Kurlandski, brother of the bride, and Mary Adomitis, sister of the bride. The Prayer of the Faithful was offered by Holly Check, sister-in-law of the groom. Offertory gifts were presented by John and Frank Kurlandski, brothers of the bride.

A bridal shower was hosted by the mother of the bride at Mohegan Sun Pocono, Wilkes-Barre. The parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Bear Creek Inne, Bear Creek. Following the ceremony, the couple’s evening cocktail hour and reception took place in the Keystone Grand Ballroom at Mohegan Sun Pocono, Wilkes-Barre.

The couple honeymooned at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun, Mexico. They reside in Pittston Township with their cat, Jasmine.
