LA PLUME — Keystone College Art Society students will present a 24-hour Draw-a-Thon to raise awareness and funds for the new community center and gallery, The Gathering Place, in Clarks Summit. The event, which is free of charge and open to the public, will be held from 6 p.m. May 2 through 6 p.m. May 3 at the Theatre in Brooks.

The Draw-a-Thon will feature five teams of Keystone College art students competing to create large-scale works of art in various media, all within the 24-hour period. Each work will focus on the theme of “gatherings.” One piece will be selected as the winning artwork and will be donated for permanent display in The Gathering Place exhibition space in Clarks Summit.

Throughout the Draw-a-Thon, several area bands will provide musical entertainment, and visitors will have the opportunity to participate in multiple prize raffles. The live music schedule is as follows:

• Monday, May 2: Pulak from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.; The Bands at Keystone Jazz Combo from 8 to 9 p.m.; Static in the Attic from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.

• Tuesday, May 3: Southside Bandits from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Gathering Place is a new community center that celebrates inclusive partnerships, creativity, education, and the arts in Clarks Summit and the Abingtons. The organization is transforming the first floor of the former Clarks Summit firehouse into its new home. This will become the main location for the Abington Area Community Classroom and a venue for local artists and community groups to learn, create, and share talents and knowledge. The space will include a fine art studio, kitchen, classrooms, and an open area that can accommodate small events, exhibitions, and theatrical productions.

This Draw-A-Thon will raise funds in order to help The Gathering Place finish renovations. Donations are welcomed and those interested in contributing may also visit the GoFundMe page at gofundme.com/3rxt6zgk. All proceeds go directly to The Gathering Place.
