West Pittston police released surveillance pictures of a man they say robbed the Friendly Food Mart on Wyoming Avenue Thursday morning. Submitted photos

WEST PITTSTON — Police are investigating a robbery at the Friendly Food Mart on Wyoming Avenue that occurred early Thursday morning.

Police said a man entered the store at about 5:45 a.m. and told the cashier to give him money. The suspect threatened the cashier with a firearm after the cashier refused to surrender any money. No firearm was shown during the robbery.

Police said the suspect walked behind the counter after the cashier left the store and removed a money box containing about $300.

The suspect left the store and was followed by the cashier, police said.

Police said the suspect dropped the money box and was kicked by the cashier in a parking lot behind the foot mart. The suspect picked up money box and grabbed about $250, police said.

The suspect was last seen running on Race Street.

Police described the suspect as a white man, 5 feet 7 inches tall, medium build, and had on a sweatshirt with the word “Starbury” on the front.
