IT SPEAKS FOR itself, so we need not say much here.
Area residents who bemoan the imminent loss of the Hotel Sterling can take small comfort in Tuesday’s Times Leader story noting a cut crystal, 800-pound chandelier that helped make the building’s interior so memorable not only survives but was restored and put on display at the Canteen 900 Restaurant in Forty Fort.
Area residents can also rightly wonder, as longtime hotel preservation proponent Sally Healey did, where all the other “stuff” from the hotel went.
Millions of taxpayer dollars were spent in a failed effort to preserve this historic structure, and yet it is poised to disappear.
The re-emergence of the chandelier, purchased by the building owner at an auction, is a glittering reminder of what we lost.
It is also a glaring demand for a full accounting as to how and why we lost it.
