(AP) Authorities say a man who shot and wounded a Los Angeles-area police officer and holed up with two hostages has surrendered after a standoff of nearly nine hours.

Inglewood police Lt. Mark Fried tells the Daily Breeze the 45-year-old man gave himself up at about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday and his two hostages his girlfriend and her 14-year-old daughter are safe.

Police went to the home at about 12:30 p.m. after reports of a domestic disturbance.

Police Capt. James Madia says the man began firing before officers got to the front door.

Police say the officer who was shot was hit in his bulletproof vest. He remains hospitalized but is expected to survive.

Another officer fell while trying to help the wounded officer and had minor injuries.
