WILKES-BARRE — A White Haven man has admitted to a November bank hold up.

Michael J. McDonough, 47, pleaded guilty Monday in Luzerne County Court to one count of robbery, according to court papers.

Judge Joseph F. Sklarosky Jr. scheduled the man to be sentenced Aug. 17. Court documents indicate prosecutors have agreed McDonough should serve two to four years behind bars.

He also must make $1,380 restitution, court papers say.

According to police, McDonough entered the PNC bank on Main Street, Avoca, on Nov. 21, 2014, and handed a teller a note written on a McDonald’s receipt demanding money and indicating he was armed.

Scranton police arrested McDonough the following day at the supermarket where he worked. Police say he was in possession of the credit card used in the purchase from the McDonald’s receipt.

Once apprehended, police say, McDonough said he had spent all the money from his paycheck at the Mohegan Sun Casino, and decided to rob a bank so he could return to the casino.

After robbing the Avoca bank, the man drove to Mount Airy Casino, where he told police he stayed until hearing his picture was “all over the news.”
