WILKES-BARRE — An Edwardsville woman has admitted to performing sex acts on a 12-year-old boy.

Sharon Bentler, 42, of 7 Beech St., pleaded guilty Monday in Luzerne County Court to one felony count each of aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old and endangering the welfare of a child, court papers say.

Court papers indicate prosecutors withdrew charges of aggravated indecent assault of a child, rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old and two counts of corruption of minors.

Prosecutors also agreed to discontinue other pending investigations, and to not file additional charges against the woman concerning allegations of abuse and neglect of other child victims, according to court documents.

Judge David W. Lupas scheduled the woman’s sentencing for Oct. 30. Court papers indicate prosecutors agreed to a state prison term of three to six years, followed by four years special probation.

According to a criminal complaint, Bentler performed oral sex as well as manual sex acts on the child, and also made the boy engage in sexual intercourse with her.

The complaint says the acts occurred at three different residences in Wilkes-Barre and Edwardsville.

Court papers say Bentler may not have any unsupervised contact with minors. She is subject to lifetime registration as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.
