New Jersey authorities cleared the way for AtlantiCare, a health system in Atlantic City to become part of the Danville-based Geisinger Health System. The New Jersey Attorney General’s office and the New Jersey Superior Court, Chancery Division, approved the deal Thursday.

The organizations signed a letter of intent in November 2013 and a definitive agreement in May 2014 for AtlantiCare to become a member of Geisinger Health System.

AtlantiCare is an integrated system of services with more than 5,400 employees, 700 physicians in approximately 70 locations. It operates AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, AtlantiCare Health Solutions, the AtlantiCare Foundation, the AtlantiCare Physician Group and AtlantiCare Regional Health Services. AtlantiCare was included in Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work in Healthcare in 2010. ARMC became the 105th hospital in the nation to attain status as a Magnet™ designated hospital in March of 2004 and was re-designated a Magnet™ hospital in 2008 and 2014.

Geisinger is a physician-led system serving more than 3 million residents throughout 48 counties in central, south-central and northeast Pennsylvania. It has approximately 23,500 employees, including a 1,200-member multi-specialty group practice, nine hospital campuses, two research centers and a 510,000-member health plan.
