WILKES-BARRE — A Wilkes-Barre Area School District employee violated the district’s technology policy when he sent an email publicizing a campaign fundraiser for his brother-in-law and school board president, Louis Elmy, who is running for city council.

District Superintendent Dr. Bernard Prevuznak said he could not go into details about what discipline purchasing director Jim Post would face because it is a personnel matter.

“We have an acceptable use policy for technology. It was a violation of that,” Prevuznak said Tuesday. “Be it a mistake or not, it was a violation.”

Post could not be reached for comment.

Elmy, a counselor for the Luzerne County Correctional Facility, also could not be reached for comment.

Elmy won the Democratic nomination for District B in the Nov. 3 general election and faces Tony Brooks, the Republican candidate.

Prevuznak was contacted about the email by a reporter from the Times Leader. The email, sent to the reporter last week for Thursday’s fundraiser held by The Committee to Elect Louis Elmy listed the time, location and cost – a $30 donation – and contained Post’s title, the address of the district’s administration building, his phone number and extension and fax number.

Prevuznak said he was unaware of the email and would contact the district’s information technology department to determine if Post used his district email.

“It would be a violation of our email policy if he did,” Prevuznak said. “He’d be disciplined.”

Earlier this year, Post used his personal email when he contacted the reporter to announce Elmy’s candidacy. The announcement said Elmy has worked for the county prison for 29 years and was president of the school board. It stated Elmy’s focus would be “on keeping Wilkes-Barre’s financial footing strong, reign in spending and keeping the fiscal burden from affecting residents and taxpayers.”
