PITTSTON — City council members approved an application for a 2015 Pennsylvania Community Development Block Grant Program fund at their monthly meeting Wednesday.

According to Joe Chacke, executive director of the Pittston Redevelopment Authority, the city has $274,000 to use on projects throughout the city through this program.

The multi-year project includes a new elevator at the Pittston Fire Department, home refurbishing throughout the city and a project at Jefferson Park, which Chacke said is yet to be determined.

Council members also approved a payment of $232,728.86 for the Pittston Memorial Library Project that included the new children’s wing and John P. Cosgrove Center.

Chacke said there is one last payment to be made for the expansion project.

In other business, council members approved:

• Permit fees for material collection containers to be $500 per year.

• The addition of Avoca, Dupont and Hughestown boroughs as voting members of the Northeast Land Bank Authority.

• A reimbursement of $225,125 from PennDOT for Streetscape Phases III and IV which will see work done from Market Street to Columbus Street and a separate part of Columbus Street to Swallow Street.

• The purchase of a new ambulance for the Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance Association at a cost of $163,000.

• The payments of $21,895.34 and $27,686.08 for the current Kennedy Boulevard and Riverfront Park Streetscape projects.
