KINGSTON — Wyoming Valley Motors has not yet moved to its new location in Plains Township, but there’s been interest in its property near Kingston Corners.

The company plans to relocate its BMW and Subaru/Kia dealerships next year to a 12-acre site under construction along state Route 315 near the Mohegan Sun Pocono casino.

Kingston Municipal Administrator Paul Keating said a CVS store could be built on the BMW property on Market Street, moving CVS closer to the busy intersection where a Walgreens sits.

“We met with representatives of CVS last spring and at that time they told us that they had first rights to purchase this property from Wyoming Valley Motors,” Keating said Tuesday.

CVS leases space for a store a few blocks away on Market Street between North Welles and North Thomas avenues. The company is attracted to the BMW property because it needs at least a 12,500 square-foot store to compete against Walgreens, the nation’s drug retailing chain, Keating said. A move would place it at the corners that has a daily traffic count of 11,000 vehicles and within walking distance of students from Wyoming Seminary and residents of Dan Flood Towers.

Keating said he is not aware of any similar interest for Wyoming Valley Motors Subaru/Kia dealership property on Pierce Street.

Wyoming Valley Motors also has Audi, Mazda, Porsche and Volkswagen dealerships at its Narrows Road location in Larksville.

Steve Ubaldini of Wyoming Valley Motors could not be reached for comment.

Mike DeAngelis, a spokesman for CVS Health in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, would not confirm the company’s interest in the Market Street property.

“We have no announcement at this time for a new store location in Kingston,” DeAngelis said by email.

Keating said Wyoming Valley Motors would be missed.

“From our end, we hate to see Wyoming Valley Motors leave. They’ve been a big asset to the community and the largest payer of mercantile tax,” he said.

The BMW property could accommodate a new CVS and an additional building that would contribute to the tax, he said. The municipality could further benefit if the move goes through and the property CVS leases is developed, he said.

“We can end up with three new buildings,” Keating said.
