WILKES-BARRE — James Roche, sentenced in the April 2014 shooting deaths of Ronald “Barney” Evans and his son, Jeffrey Evans, has appealed to the state superior court his double-homicide conviction, according to court documents.

A Luzerne County jury found Roche, 33, guilty on two counts of first-degree murder on Nov. 6 after police said he and his girlfriend, Holly Crawford, fatally shot Ronald Evans, 73, and his 43-year-old son, Jeffrey Evans, outside the Hunlock Creek residence the two shared.

Roche, of Sweet Valley, received two consecutive life sentences in the fatal shootings.

Paul Galante, Roche’s attorney, filed the notice of appeal Monday in Luzerne County Court.

Crawford’s attorney filed an appeal last month claiming Luzerne County Judge Fred A. Pierantoni III erred in giving instructions to the jury in her trial, which also resulted in a pair of first-degree murder convictions and two consecutive life sentences.

Roche remains jailed at State Correctional Institution Camp Hill.
