WILKES-BARRE — After taking some flack for not including it on the agenda, the Wilkes-Barre Area School Board voted Monday night to negotiate the lease-purchase agreement of the Times Leader building with Panzitta enterprises, or if that fails to buy the building outright, to house half the Coughlin students during replacement of Coughlin High School.

John Quinn made the motion and Christine Katsock said the idea didn’t make financial sense, and that she would vote no.

Ned Evans said his yes vote was based on student safety, citing multiple problems with Coughlin and Meyers High Schools. He also argued buying and renovating the building would cost more. “Ladies and gentleman I see no other way.

Shawn Walker cast the only other no vote.
