WILKES-BARRE — WBRE-TV has announced that Chubby Checker will perform on Pa Live at 4 p.m. April 11. Hosts Dave Kuharchik and Valerie Tysanner will welcome Checker to perform his new releases “Changes” and “Lookin’ For Me.”

Checker became a nationally recognized artist in 1959 when his debut record “The Class” reached No. 34 on the Billboard pop music chart. He became an icon when his second single “The Twist” not only reached No. 1 on the charts but also gave rise to a dance craze that took over the country.

“The Twist” was named the No. 1 song of all time by Billboard magazine close to five decades after the single was released. Now, the pop rock legend is bringing his most recent efforts to Northeastern Pennsylvania to perform live.

Chubby Checker performs at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards on Thursday, June 12, 2014 in New York. He’ll perform on Pa Live at 4 p.m. April 11.
