The following are recent Lackawanna County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: “any inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.” The information is taken from the inspection database at www.eatsafepa.com. Subway/Electric City Pizza, 203 N. Washington Ave., Scranton, April 5. Regular inspection; in compliance.

Thai Thai Restaurant, 309 N. Washington Ave., Scranton, April 5. Regular inspection; in compliance.

Blu Wasabi, 223 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit, April 5. Follow-up inspection; in compliance. Violations: Bain marie was observed at 42 degrees F during this inspection. Unit was not in use at the time of this inspection. Unit will not be used until it can maintain a temperature of 41 degrees F or lower. Ceiling and fan guards in walk-in cooler have an accumulation of dust. Observed old crumbs and food residue under plastic storage shelf in cook line area of kitchen.

Convenient #3021, 325 Market St., Scranton, April 6. Regular inspection; in compliance.

Manning’s Ice Cream Store, 549 State St., Clarks Summit, April 6. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food employees observed in counter area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

McDonald’s, 485 Daleville Hwy., Covington Twp., April 6. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Raw shell eggs stored above lettuce and Canadian bacon in the small refrigerator on the cook line. The eggs were placed on the bottom shelf. Food employees observed in cook area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets or hats. Visors were donned.

Silver Spoon Diner, 108 S. State St., Clarks Summit, April 6. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Sauce was held at 123 degrees F, in the hot holding area, rather than 135 degrees F or above as required. The sauce was reheated to 165 degrees F during this inspection. Refrigerated ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in cooler, is not being date marked. Reviewed and left Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s handout on date marking with the person in charge. Loose/broken rubber door gaskets observed on the walk-in freezer. Non-food contact surfaces (fan guards in the walk-in cooler) not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dust. Light over the bakery area is not shielded or shatter proof.

Milton Eisner Yeskiva High School, 930 Hickory St., Scranton, April 7. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food employee observed in prep area, with soiled outer garments that may contaminate food and/or food equipment. Bags of meat observed thawing at room temperature on the racks, which is not an approved thawing method. Exhaust hood has an accumulation of dust and debris. Heavy dust buildup observed on the exterior and top of heat pipes in the prep area. Lack of a back-flow prevention device on the water line in the utility area. Ceiling tiles missing in the ware-wash area need to be replaced.

Violations: Food ingredient storage containers, in the kitchen area, are not labeled with the common name of the food. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food (deli meats/cheeses), located in the walk-in cooler, and held more than 24 hours, are not being marked with the date it was opened. Foods will be date marked from this date forward. The slicer was taken apart and cleaned during this inspection. Lights are not shielded or shatter proof over the cook line area. Food facility has an original certificate posted, but the location is not conspicuous for public viewing. The certificate was placed at the bar area during this inspection.

Mendicino’s Family Restaurant, 914 Drinker Turnpike., Covington Twp., April 12. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 parts per million, and not 50-100 ppm as required. The owner called the repair service, who came during the inspection. There was a pinched line and the final rinse is 120 degrees F and 100 ppm chlorine residual.
