NATIONAL HARBOR, MARYLAND — Times Leader speller Peter Khoudary, 11, of Dallas, who is representing Northeastern Pennsylvania in the Scripps National Spelling Bee this week, said the written, preliminary test he took Tuesday morning was “not very easy,” yet he “felt good about it.”

“I knew about half of them, 100 percent,” he said.

On Wednesday morning he will participate onstage in “Round 2” of the bee and by evening should know if he will advance to the finals on Thursday.

Khoudary said he enjoyed touring Mt. Vernon on Tuesday afternoon and meeting other spellers at a barbecue on Monday. “It’s way cool,” he said. “You meet people and they say, ‘I’m from Nevada.’ “

ESPN3 will broadcast spelling bee coverage from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.
