WYOMISSING — PennEast Pipeline announced a grant program aimed at helping area nonprofits further Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs on Monday.

The PennEast Powering STEM Grant Program will award several grants up to $10,000 each to Pennsylvania and New Jersey 501(c)(3) organizations, which includes after school, summer, youth programs and educational institutions that promote STEM education.

“The region’s abundant natural gas supplies are helping usher in a wave of new career opportunities,” said Pam Witmer of PennEast Pipeline Company in an emailed news release. “From the exploration and production of natural gas to its delivery, its use as an electric generation fuel to a manufacturing feedstock and beyond, it is critical that existing and new businesses have a workforce prepared to take advantage of an energy based economy.”

Grant applications can be found at penneastpipeline.com and are due by Feb. 17. PennEast Pipeline Company may choose to fund projects up to $10,000 or partial fund programs, according to the news release.

Participants should include a budget with the application which includes the following information:

• how the grant will be used;

• the program’s materials, equipment and supplies;

• transportation costs associated with the program; and

• required teaching staff for the project.

“Organizations along the PennEast Pipeline route will be given preference but all organizations that meet the program’s objectives are encouraged to apply,” according to the release.

The PennEast Pipeline is a planned 120-mile natural gas pipeline that will start in Dallas Township and transport up to one billion cubic feet of Marcellus Shale Natural Gas to a Transco’s pipeline connection in Mercer County, New Jersey.
