The following are recent Lackawanna County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: “any inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.” The information is taken from the inspection database at www.eatsafepa.com. Postal addresses used here are as listed on the state’s website, and may not correspond to the municipalities in which facilities are physically located.

Burger King #18509, 1174 Mount Cobb Road, Jefferson Township, Jan. 24. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: An uncapped, unlabeled plastic bottle, of water, is on the prep table adjacent to the prep line. The bottle was emptied and placed in the equipment sink. The manager stated that the bottle will be labeled. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available in the Silver King refrigerator, under the front counter, and the bain marie, adjacent to the frozen dessert machine. A thermometer was placed in the refrigerator. Water collecting on the bottom of the bain marie. Old product and lubricant in the right side drip tray in the frozen dessert machine; and old product in the left side and front drip trays. Paper littering the floor, and under the storage shelves, in the walk-in freezer.

Elmhurst Quik Stop and Mini Mart, 554 Route 435, Elmhurst, Jan. 24. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Paper towel dispenser empty at the hand-wash sink in the prep area. Paper towels were placed at the sink. Soap was not available at the hand-wash sink in the prep area. Soap was placed at the sink.

Kentucky Fried Chicken #C253001, 531 Scranton/Carbondale Highway, Eynon, Jan. 24. Complaint inspection; in compliance.

King Joe’s Tobacco and News, 480 Daleville Highway, Suite 6, Covington Township, Jan. 24. Regular inspection; in compliance.

Turkey Hill #181, Powell and Main St., Old Forge, Jan. 24. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Manual ware-washing equipment observed with build up of filth and not cleaned before use, and frequently throughout the day. Non-food contact surfaces of fan guards in walk-in coolers not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and dust. Dead battery at the hand-wash station area hand towel dispenser & soap dispenser. Old floor debris, grime on floor surface in back storeroom, and in need of cleaning.

Uno Chicago Pizzeria, 3905 Commerce Blvd., Dickson City, Jan. 24. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid. The person in charge stated that he will complete a class within the next month. Hood filters over the fryers observed with an accumulation of grease and static dust. The person in charge stated that the hoods are scheduled for cleaning this week. Masking tape (used for labeling) is not being completely removed from exterior surfaces on plastic food storage containers during wash process. Non-food contact surfaces (inside floors of several refrigerators) are not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of old food residue and debris. Non-food contact surfaces (pizza oven) not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and old food debris. Lights are not shielded or shatter proof in the dessert prep area. Soap was not available at the hand-wash sink in the hot prep area. Soap was placed at the sink during this inspection. Floors throughout the kitchen and storage areas underneath equipment and shelving observed with an accumulation of dust and debris. Missing floor tile observed under the food prep sink in the main kitchen area. Area filled with water and debris.

Wildflour Eatery & Desserts, 480 Daleville Highway, Suite 5, Covington Township, Jan. 24. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Observed chicken being cooled in the refrigerator in a container sealed with plastic wrap, which is not a proper cooling method. The plastic wrap was removed to allow the chicken to cool. Food facility is using an approved non-public water system, but does not have current laboratory testing results for water potability. Fax a copy of the test results to the PA Dept. of Agriculture,.

Price Chopper #169, 1510 S. Main Ave., Taylor, Jan. 26. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Commercially processed refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food (deli meats/cheeses), located in the deli case, and held more than 24 hours, are not being consistently marked with the date they were opened. Reviewed and left a copy of PDA’s date marking guide with the person in charge. Deli roast beef a refrigerated, ready-to-eat time temperature control for safety food in the deli case area, was date-marked by the facility, but was beyond the 7-day use or sell by date and requires discarding. The product was voluntarily discarded during this inspection. Hood filters in the Bella Roma area and seafood areas have an accumulation of grease. The quaternary ammonia concentration in the sanitizing solution of the 3-bay ware-wash sink in the bakery area was 0 ppm, rather than 200 ppm as stated on the manufacturers use directions. The sink was re-set during this inspection. Floor tiles missing under fryer equipment in the seafood area creating pooling water and oil. Floor underneath rotisserie and cooking equipment of the Bella Roma area has an accumulation of old food residue and debris. Floors under the ware-wash machine in the Bella Roma area, behind the ovens in the bagel area and bakery areas have an accumulation of dust and debris.

Panchero’s Mexican Grill 3801, 2011 Shoppes Blvd., Moosic, Jan. 31. Follow-up inspection; out of compliance. Violations: Observed bag of onions stored directly on the floor in kitchen area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Cooked rice was held at 40 degrees F & chicken was held at 120 degrees F in the hot holding unit, rather than 135 degrees F or above as required. Reviewed with person in charge proper reheating procedures and hot holding temperature. Observed pans & pots stored in ware-wash area directly on the floor, and not 6 inches above the floor. The hand-wash sink in the kitchen area was blocked and not accessible at all times for employee use. Soap was not available at the hand-wash sink in front service area. Mops are not being hung to air dry.

Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Detergent bulk container supplying detergent to the wash compartment of the mechanical ware-washing equipment was empty. Observed dish dispenser equipment, in ware-wash area, with an accumulation of dust, dirt, old food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces. Food residue observed in the hand-wash sink and is soiled to sight and touch. Personal items (cell phone and jacket) stored in the food preparation and ware-wash area. Accumulated food debris on floors in the kitchen area. Floor in and around drainboard in the dish washing area, does not allow for self-draining as evidenced by pooling water and accumulation of slime. Observed approximately 6-9 fruit or drain flies under dishwasher equipment.
