WILKES-BARRE — Police provided updated information on the shooting Monday night and said the victim was a 29-year-old woman.

Police did not identify the woman who was taken to an area hospital. At the scene Monday night, Wilkes-Barre Police Department Commander of Investigations Joe Coffay said her injuries did not appear life threatening.

Initially Coffay said a girl was shot in the leg. According to the updated report: The woman reported hearing a fight involving several people outside her residence on the corner of Hutson and Metcalf streets at approximately 8:16 p.m. She went outside to bring her child into the house. As she was ushering the child in and closing the front door she felt a gunshot to her leg.

Police said detectives are investigating.
