WILKES-BARRE (WOLF-TV) — In major cities across the country Monday, hundreds gathered for “Spirit of America” rallies in an effort to show support for President Trump.

While not as many turned out for today’s gathering in Wilkes-Barre, their goal is the same.

“To spread the message,” organizer Leann Koons said.

“That he’s the first president that we’ve had that has actually stuck to his word since day one. That’s why we’re doing all this.”

Main Street Patriots organized today’s rallies across the nation.

Koons says between 15 and 20 supporters gathered at the height of today’s rally.

One supporter stopped on his way home from shopping.

While he didn’t know about the rally before, he knew he had to stop when he saw signs in support of President Trump.

“I hope everybody would just give him a chance, give it some time,” Kevin Richards, of Sugar Notch, said.

“I know everybody doesn’t agree with everything. But, he is our president and it seems like he’s genuine.”

Supporter Drew Koons has a message for those who don’t support the president, or who are on the fence.

“I just hope they take a good hard look and think about what’s been going on and look at the values of it all,” he said.

“I mean there’s not a lot of values in the protests we’ve seen with the riots in the burning buildings and burning cars.”

While Richards agrees with most of the president’s policies, he doesn’t support Trump’s executive order to temporarily ban individuals from seven Muslim counties.

“You can’t really paint the whole religion as they’re all bad. I think they’re just a few bad eggs in the bunch. For the most part, I think they’re all decent people.”

A larger rally is planned for this Saturday in cities across the country, including Wilkes-Barre.
