WILKES-BARRE — A city man was arrested early Saturday morning after he reportedly hit his pregnant girlfriend.

According to police, officers responded to South River Street at approximately 6:10 a.m. after receiving a call from a child who said that his mother and her boyfriend were in a fight.

When officers arrived on scene and spoke to the victim, a 35-year-old woman from Wilkes-Barre, she reported that she and her boyfriend, Jamal Wilson, 37, of Wilkes-Barre, had gotten into an argument.

At that point, Wilson allegedly punched the victim and kicked her in the head. The victim said she was pregnant. Police say that the argument started because the woman was allegedly drinking while pregnant, which angered Wilson.

Wilson was arrested on charges of simple assault and taken to police headquarters.
