WEST PITTSTON — Borough council has pulled out of a police regionalization study.

Borough Manager Savino Bonita said council members passed a resolution in September 2016 to participate in a study about merging West Pittston’s force with the Pittston City Police Department. The decision this week to repeal that resolution now means they will no longer go through with the study.

“The study was to see if (regionalization) would save the town money,” said Bonita.

The review was to have been conducted by the state Department of Community and Economic Development.

Also during this week’s council meeting, members approved entering into an agreement with PPL to install LED streetlights throughout the borough.

Bonita is unsure when the installations will begin.

“The first step is passing the agreement and now we have to forward that to PPL,” he said.

Council members also approved entering a gaming-grant contract with the state for $50,000. The money will pay for improvements to a public works facility on Delaware Avenue.

Bonita said the upgrades will include interior drainage and paving work as well as constructing a new salt shed.

It was announced in March that West Pittston would be getting the $50,000 in gaming revenue.

In other business, council members approved:

• A fence quote of $7,600 from FenceOne Fence Solutions of Wilkes-Barre to construct a fence at Morris Park.

• A historical marker at a property at 21 Exeter Ave.
