A local family met President Donald Trump as Keemiya Pourmonir graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.

Pourmonir graduated as an ensign on May 17. She received her degree from the commander-in-chief as well as her sister, Ariana Lynn Mohnke-Pourmonir, a 2010 coast guard graduate.

Keemiya graduated with an electrical engineering degree and will be serve on a first-response cutter in Key West, Florida. Ariana works in Hawaii on a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ship.

Keemiya graduated from the Milton Hershey School, but spent most of her school years in the Pittston Area School District, Careen Pourmonir, Keemiya’s mother, said.
