PLAINS TWP. — Officials and attorneys are tight-lipped, but sources have confirmed the son of Wilkes-Barre Area School Board member John Quinn has been suspended with pay from his job at the Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technical Center, pending an investigation into an unspecified allegation.

Quinn is also one of Wilkes-Barre Area School Board’s representatives on the Joint Operating Committee that runs the CTC.

Quinn did not return a call seeking comment Monday afternoon, and quietly said he did not recall getting any message when asked as he left the CTC on Monday night. The JOC had a meeting scheduled for 6:30, but only four members showed up, failing to form a quorum.

Co-solicitors John “Jack” Dean and Ray Wendolowski declined comment on the suspension. Recently appointed CTC Administrative Director Anthony Guariglia did not return a call seeking comment. Principal Frank Majikes did not respond to an email.

According to sources, Quinn’s son, also named John, was suspended pending an investigation, but additional details were not available. He was hired as a long-term substitute at the center in November 2014. In August 2015, he was appointed to fill the newly created position of career academic accountability resource instructor.

At the time, Majikes said the position was “established to meet the need of instructing and tutoring struggling students.”

Majikes also said the new position involved “designing other programs of study, including online,” and those new programs could make additional certifications available.
