PITTSTON — Council members approved two proposals from Reilly Associates for engineering services at their monthly meeting Wednesday.

The first proposal, for services on Phase 4A of the city’s streetscape project, is for $101,550 while the second proposal, for services on Phase 4B, is for $79,950.

“They’re providing the design and they’re providing the inspection services, and all of the typical engineering services that go with a municipal project,” said Joe Chacke, executive director of Pittston’s Redevelopment Authority.

Phase 4A is a $800,00 project and includes new sidewalks, paved roads, and planted trees from Columbus to Frothingham avenues. Phase 4B, a nearly $485,000 project, includes the same work, only it will be done from Swallow to Winter streets.

Council members also approved Reilly Associates for engineering services on the rehabilitation and additional development of Sullivan Park for $69,500.

The $600,000 in park work includes construction of a second basketball court, installing security cameras, installing a picnic area, fixing baseball dugouts and improving one of the two Little League fields.

Chacke noted the park project is slated to begin at the end of the summer and conclude in the fall.

In other business, council members:

• Approved the closing of Church Street between Broad and William streets between the hours of 4 and 11 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, Friday, Aug. 11, and Saturday, Aug. 12, for the annual bazaar of St. John the Evangelist Parish.

• Approved the closing of Tomato Festival Drive and Kennedy Street between Charles Street and Tomato Festival Drive, and Spring Alley between Market Street and Tomato Festival Drive, from Thursday, Aug. 17, to Sunday, Aug. 20, for the city’s annual Tomato Festival.
