WILKES-BARRE — The National Weather Service issued a variety of severe weather warnings Tuesday, including a tornado warning for Luzerne County.

But despite blackened skies and pounding rain that started about 8 p.m., the Luzerne County 911 center said no major damage or injuries were reported.

A 911 supervisor did note there was some minor flooding in areas where that commonly occurs.

And PPL was reporting power outages for a few hundred customers in the Wilkes-Barre area as of early last night.

The tornado warning was in effect between 8 and 8:30 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Sugar Notch a few minutes before 8, according to the NWS report.

It was predicting the storm would move from Sugar Notch to the areas of Edwardsville, Luzerne, Wilkes-Barre and then finally Pittston.

A severe thunderstorm warning was also in effect for the Wyoming Valley.

The storms also knocked out power, and 296 customers were without electricity service as of 9:30 p.m., according to PPL’s online outage map.

Those without service seemed to be concentrated in the city of Wilkes-Barre.
