HAZLETON — Police are investigating a deadly shooting in a city park that occurred Saturday night.

According to Times Leader news-gathering partner Fox 56:

Neighbors in the 100 block of Hemlock Street near the Pine Street park reported hearing shots around 9:15 p.m.

Police responded but did not find a victim.

Police later learned that a gunshot victim was being treated at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton. The 20-year-old man later died.

According to Mayor Jeff Cusat, the shooting is the first fatal shooting in Hazleton this year.

Police did not identify the victim.

No further details were available at press time.
