Wilkes-Barre emergency workers attend to a gunshot victim at Sherman Hills apartment complex in Wilkes-Barre on March 23 before transporting him to a hospital.

Wilkes-Barre police cars are seen parked outside the high-rise apartment building at the Sherman Hills apartment complex following a shooting there on March 23.

WILKES-BARRE — City police said the suspect in a shooting in an apartment high rise hallway at Sherman Hills last month was captured Tuesday in New York City.

Keith Brian Hayes, 24, known as “Keefy Blood,” was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals in Manhattan, police said.

Police said Hayes was incarcerated in New York pending extradition to Luzerne County to face charges of criminal attempt to commit homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment and illegal possession of a firearm.

A warrant was issued for Hayes’ arrest several hours after he allegedly shot Brandon Eubanks, 23, in a second floor hallway in the high rise at the apartment complex just after 8 p.m. March 23, according to the criminal complaint.

Eubanks suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including one round to his neck. He was treated at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township.

Police said Eubanks continues to recover from the gunshot wound.

A surveillance camera recorded Hayes and another man walking in a hallway six minutes before the shooting. A witness not named in the complaint told police Hayes emerged from an apartment and confronted Eubanks in a hallway. During a fight, Hayes pulled out a handgun and shot Eubanks multiple times, the complaint says.

Police said Hayes fled Wilkes-Barre and returned to his hometown of New York City after the shooting.
