ANDERSON - Myrtle, 90, of Tunkhannock, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the Tyler Hospital.

She was born in Ridgewood N.Y., on March 21, 1923. She was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Tunkhannock.

Surviving are her children, Nancy Jean, of Elkton, Fla.; Walter Robert, of Long Beach, N.Y.; and Karen, of Tunkhannock; six grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

BETTS - Roger C., 77, of Twin Drive, Tunkhannock, died Saturday, June 22, 2013, at home.

He was born on Dec. 8, 1935, and was a graduate of Knox College in Galesburg Ill. He was a Navy veteran and a Procter & Gamble retiree.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Joan Janin Betts; sons, David, of Tunkhannock; Gregory, of Scranton; Stephen, of Clarks Summit; daughter, Heather, of Tunkhannock; a brother, Richard, and a sister, Carolyn Johnston, both of Kennett Square; two granddaughters.

BOYES - Hugh R. 46, of Dallas, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre, was a graduate of Dallas High School and Luzerne County Community College. He had worked as a store clerk in the local State Stores. Hugh was a member of the Harveys Lake American Legion 967 and was a veteran of the Gulf War.

Surviving are his brothers, Warren, Peachtree City, Ga.; and Jeff, Sweet Valley; nieces and nephews.

BRACE - Martha Sylvia, 94, of Dallas, died Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Hospice Community Care, Wilkes Barre.

She was born in Noxen and attended the Noxen High School.

She was a member of the Kunkle United Methodist Church, The Joy Class, the United Methodist Women, the Church Choir and was a Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are sons, Allen Richard, Dallas; Donald, Dallas; Dale, Laury Station; daughter, Wendy Crispell, Monroe Township; eight grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; two great-great grandchildren; brother, Francis Space, Montrose; sister, Evelyn Lorraine Pramick, Hunlock Creek.

COOK - Mildred Elnor, 85, formerly of Noxen, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, in the Above and Beyond Personal Care Facility of Allentown.

She was born in Noxen, was a graduate of Noxen Township High School class of 1946 and Empire Beauty School. She helped manage Midget Lake Farms with her husband until they sold the farm. In addition, she operated her own beauty shop, worked several years as a clerk in the Wyoming County Commissioner’s office and was a teacher’s aide for 20 years at Beaumont and Evans Falls Elementary Schools.

She was a member of the Noxen United Methodist Church, Young Republican Club of Wyoming County, Yellow Rock Squares, and a 4-H leader.

Surviving are sisters, Dorothy Case and Florence Parker, both of Noxen; children, Byron, of Allentown; Judith A. Shup, of Tunkhannock; four grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

DELANY - Eleanor Cregar, of Tunkhannock died Saturday, June 22, 2013, in the Regional Hospital of Scranton.

She was born in Elizabeth, N.J. on Aug. 7, 1920, was a graduate of Union High School in Union, N.J. and Drakes Business School. Prior to her retirement, she was in charge of the secretary’s pool for Ortho Pharmaceuticals.

She was a member of the Tunkhannock Moose Lodge.

Surviving are a son, Russell T. Campbell, of Levittown; a brother, Richard Smith, of Stockton, N.J.; stepson, James Delany of Milford, N.J.; stepdaughters, Grace Finkbeiner,of Flemington, N.J.; Kathryn Campbell, of Levittown; and Janet Harabin, of Lawton; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

MONACO - Helen S. , 71, of Sweet Valley, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services, Kingston.

She was born in Newark, N.J., on Dec. 1, 1941, graduated from Union High School in 1960 and worked as a seamstress for various sewing factories until her retirement from Encon, Fernbrook.

Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Pasquale Monaco; daughters, Kathleen Fennimore, of Union, N.J.; and Susan Langston, of Mertztown; sons, Michael, of Sweet Valley; Anthony, of Forty Fort; and Pasquale, of Shavertown; brother, Stephen Waszkiewicz, of Parkville, Md.; four grandchildren.

PATTON - Dorothy C., 76, died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at The Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre, and was a graduate of the Beaumont High School, Class of 1955. She attended Empire Beauty School and became a licensed cosmetologist in 1971. She owned and operated her own business, Dorothy Patton’s Beauty Salon, for 31 years. She attended Bowman’s Creek Free Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Lawrence; daughters, Dorothy Corby, Evans Falls; and Nancy Mahle, Evans Falls; sons, Lawrence S., Bowman’s Creek; and Douglas, Springville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanette Wright, Mary Esther, Florida; brother, Seldon Traver, Greencastle; nieces and nephews.

POPECK - Mark E., 54, of Hunlock Creek, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following a lingering illness.

He was born Nov. 20, 1958, in Wilkes-Barre, was educated in the West Side schools and was a graduate of the Wyoming Valley West High School.

Until illness caused him to retire from his professional duties, he worked as an executive chef for the Best Western East Mountain Inn, Plains Township, for over the past 20 years.

Surviving are his mother, Mary Ann (Zimmerman) Popeck, of Kingston; his wife, the former Rosalie A. Mitchell, at home; brothers, David, of Abington; Ken, of Hudson Falls, N.Y.; and Matt, of Kingston; nieces, nephews and cousins.

SWIATEK - Robert J. (Bob, “Smokey”), of Hunlock Creek, died Monday, June 24, 2013, at Hospice Community Care, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.

He was born July 17, 1940 in Hanover Township and was a graduate of Hanover Township Memorial High School, class of 1958. He was formerly employed by Air Products in Hanover Township as a machinist and quality control inspector, from where he retired in 2007.

He was a member of the Anthracite Rose Club in Dupont and a lifelong member of the Exhaltation of the Holy Cross Church in Buttonwood.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, the former Helen (Pat) Miscavage; daughter, Yvonne Siegel; son, Robert J. Jr., of Hunlock Creek; two grandsons; sisters, Dolores Davis, of Plains; and Karen Jimenez, of Washington; brothers, Anthony (Tony), of Conshocken; Joseph (Chubby), of Shickshinny; David, of Nanticoke; and Mark, of Wilkes-Barre.
