PA Landscaping and the Angeli Family of West Pittston recently donated two beautiful butterfly gardens to the grounds of the Montgomery Avenue School.
Fourth grade teacher Bob Sabol has taken on the task of improving the landscape of the school. The Butterfly gardens were part of the science lesson for Mr. Sabol’s class this year. The donation of all the plants and labor from PA Landscaping made this project possible. Each child also planted a tulip for a blossom in the spring. The breathtaking design was created by the lead horticulturist for PA Landscaping, Mike Scinibaldi
The garden features the knockout rose bush, Scabiosa, a Guinevere butterfly bush, pink day lilies and some juniper. Look for a picture in the spring to see the how the garden and children of Montgomery Ave have grown.

PA Landscaping’s generosity to the Montgomery Ave School can help the children learn about the habitat for butterflies and other species as well as the cycle of the plant life for the garden.
Adopt a Soldier
Last year Mrs. Kuffa’s class at JFK elementary got involved in the “Adopt a Soldier Program”. The soldier adopted was Captain Lee Castana. He is coming to the Montgomery Avenue Elementary to meet the students that adopted him last year. The students, who are now in our fourth grade, will meet and speak to Captain Castana on Monday, November 17th in our school cafeteria.
Food Collection
Our Montgomery Avenue Elementary PTO is conducting a food drive for Thanksgiving and Christmas time. Anyone wishing to donate any kind of non-perishable food for this project can do so anytime up until the Christmas Holidays. Anything you can donate to this food drive would be greatly appreciated. The food will be donated to the United Methodist Church food pantry across the street from our school.
The food collection boxes will be placed across from the cafeteria entrance. As an incentive, the PTO is having a contest to see what class can bring in the most can goods up until Friday, November 21st for the Thanksgiving collection. The amount will be based on the percentage per student in each class. The PTO will have a pizza party for the winning class. This will also be done for the Christmas time collection. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile project. Send in your can goods A.S.A.P.
