John and Alice Matukonis, Forty Fort, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on May 14, 2014. They were married on May 14, 1949, by the late Rev. Buda in St. Mary’s of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church, Swoyersville.
Alice was a homemaker, avid quilter and active member of the Christian Mothers Society. She is well-known for her scrumptious Welsh cookies. She is the daughter of the late Blaise and Mary Gavlick, Swoyersville.
John is the son of the late Peter and Anna Matukonis, Luzerne. He is a retired sheet metal worker and was employed for many years by General Roofing Company, Wilkes-Barre. He is still a member of Local 44 of the Sheet Metal Workers Union (now called SMART: Sheet Metal, Air, Rail Transportation Workers Union).
They are the parents of three sons, Edward, Forty Fort; Michael and his wife Merry, Centre Hall; and Richard and his wife Anne, Williamsport. They also have three grandchildren, Will Matukonis, Tess Fellows and Natalie Gephart and one great-grandson, Sam Delker.
A family dinner at Perugino’s, Luzerne, will mark the occasion.
