Gerard and Rosemary Schmid, Dallas, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married May 8, 1965.

Gerard (Jerry) is the son of the late Lorenzo and Anita Schmid, Wilkes-Barre.

Rosemary (Rose) is the daughter of Rosemary Perrins, Wilkes-Barre, and the late David Perrins.

Jerry and Rose are the parents of three children, daughter Renee Benedetti and husband Paul, daughter Cheryl Osborne and husband Doug, and son Jerry and wife Nancy, all of Dallas. They are the grandparents of seven, Anthony and Leah Benedetti, Christopher, Jacob and Ryan Schmid, Olivia and Madeline Dworak, and step-grandchildren Derrick and Chloe Osborne.

Jerry formerly operated Schmid’s Amoco Service and gas station on the Shavertown Highway for 40 years, retiring in 2008. He enjoys his free time restoring antique cars.

Rose is active in her church and its Altar and Rosary Society. Affectionately known to many as Grandma Rose or Rosie, she is known for her good cooking, especially her piggies and potato salad, always feeding family and friends.

They celebrated their 50th anniversary with a surprise party hosted by their children and spouses. The Rev. Daniel A. Toomey attended the party and they renewed their wedding vows. They will attend the wedding anniversary Mass at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Scranton.
