(AP) Robert R. Taylor, who took soap out of dishes, put it in pump bottles and in so doing forever changed the way millions of people clean themselves, has died at age 77.

Taylor's family says the creator of SoftSoap died of cancer Aug. 29 in Newport Beach, Calif.

An entrepreneur who created and sold more than a dozen businesses, Taylor also created the hugely successful Calvin Klein fragrance line Obsession.

SoftSoap, he said, came to be as he was driving to work one day, thinking how messy a bar of soap becomes after it is left in a dish for a few days.

The marketing executive went home and experimented until he figured out a way to put it in bottles.

He introduced the product in 1980.
