(AP) President Barack Obama says the elimination of caps on some political contributions would essentially be saying that anything goes. He says it would shut ordinary Americans out of the process.
Obama was weighing in Tuesday on a case before the Supreme Court that could eliminate limits on contributions by the biggest individual donors.
Obama says no politician is innocent on campaign finance. But he says politicians should insist on rules to ensure voters are more important than big-dollar donors.
Obama says he believes previous easing of campaign finance rules contributed to the impasse on Congress on fiscal issues and says many Republican lawmakers come from districts where there's no incentive to compromise.
