(AP) At least two people are missing and other members of their family escaped after fire ravaged a large commercial and residential building in Southern California.

Los Angeles County Fire Dispatch Supervisor Robert Diaz says the blaze at the 5,000-square-foot building in Compton was reported around 2 a.m. It was knocked down in about an hour and a half.

KTTV reports authorities are searching for a mother and daughter. Four other members of their family managed to escape the flames.

Diaz says a firefighter was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The cause of the fire on East Compton Boulevard is under investigation.

Diaz says the structure was a commercial building with residential units on the top floor.
