(AP) An official says a disused factory building has collapsed in northern China, burying 16 construction workers who were sleeping inside.

Rescue work is ongoing following the building collapse early Monday in a rural area of Wuan city in Hebei province.

A Wuan propaganda department official who refused to give his name confirmed a state media report that those buried were construction workers for an iron mine and had been staying in the building for the night. An investigation into the cause of the collapse is under way.
