(AP) The Al-Jazeera America cable news network is off to a slow start after two months on the air. But now it has won an important entry into the country's two largest television markets.

The network announced a deal Tuesday with Time Warner Cable and the Bright House Networks to get the network into homes in New York and Los Angeles as well as Dallas over the next six months.

Between those deals and others that have not yet been announced, Al-Jazeera says it will increase its footprint to about 55 million homes, or about half of the homes with televisions in the U.S. It currently airs in about 45 million homes.

Al-Jazeera has tiny ratings, reaching an average of 14,000 viewers in prime time this month.
