Jhonny Peralta helps Tigers beat Blue Jays

(AP) Jhonny Peralta hit his first home run of the spring, and Rick Porcello allowed four hits and two runs in five innings to help the Detroit Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 on Friday.


Porcello, competing with Drew Smyly for the final spot in the Tigers' rotation, struck out four. Porcello allowed Andy LaRoche's solo homer to Andy LaRoche in the second inning.


Peralta lifted his spring training average to .194 with his second-inning homer off Ricky Romero. Austin Jackson hit a double and a triple to raise his average to .223.


Ricky Romero started for the Blue Jays and allowed three earned runs in three innings, pushing his ERA to 7.27. He struck out four and allowed five hits.


Prince Fielder had two hits, including a double, for the Tigers.
